Crossroads Firewood Co.
FOR FIREPLACES & FIRE PITS

Firewood for the fires you actually want to sit by.

Cured premium hardwood for indoor fireplaces and outdoor fire pits. Easy to light, clean to burn, beautiful stacked.

A fire in a fireplace or fire pit is a small ritual — Friday nights, holidays, the first cool evening of fall. The wood you burn shapes the whole experience. Crossroads supplies central Virginia households with cured premium hardwood that lights easily on the first match, burns clean enough to sit close to, and stacks beautifully on the porch.

Why Crossroads

What fireplaces & fire pits tell us matters most.

  • Cured premium mix — red oak, white oak, chestnut. Burns hot, burns slow, burns clean.
  • Lights easily — no struggling with under-cured wood that smokes more than it burns.
  • Low smoke output — safe for indoor fireplaces and easy on outdoor neighbors.
  • Uniform splits that stack beautifully for porch storage and outdoor displays.
  • By the bundle for weekend fires, by the tote or the cord for regular use.

Cords

A typical fireplace or fire pit used on weekends burns 1 tote (⅓ cord) per month. Regular users (multiple evenings per week) burn 1 full cord per heating season.

Premium Mix by the bundle for occasional use, or by the tote or cord for regular users.

How Fireplaces & Fire Pits Work With Us

What ordering looks like.

Weekend-fire households often start with a bundle or two to get a feel for it, then settle into a tote (⅓ cord) every month or two. Regular fireplace and fire pit users typically take a full cord at the start of the season and restock once or twice through the winter.

The Crossroads Difference

Why we don't compete on price.

Firewood from a Facebook Marketplace ad or a roadside sign is unpredictable — sometimes green, sometimes pine, sometimes who-knows-what hardwood that won't light. The first time you struggle to light a Saturday-night fire in front of company, the bargain stops feeling like a bargain. Crossroads sells premium firewood for households where the fire is the point.

Common Questions

Frequently asked.

What's the best firewood for a fireplace?

Fully cured hardwood — red oak, white oak, and chestnut are the central Virginia gold standard. They burn hot, slow, and clean, with minimal smoke and minimal creosote. Avoid pine (sap, creosote), poplar (low BTU, ashy), and anything green or under-cured (won't light, smokes badly).

How much firewood do I need for the winter?

For a fireplace or fire pit used on weekends, plan on ½ to 1 cord per heating season. For more regular use (multiple evenings per week), plan on 1–2 cords. Use our Firewood Estimator for a personalized recommendation based on how you actually burn.

Should I get bundles or order by the cord?

Bundles work for occasional weekend fires. If you use your fireplace or fire pit more than once a week, ordering by the tote (⅓ cord) or full cord saves significant money per bundle-equivalent. Our cord pricing is roughly 14% less per bundle than buying single bundles.

Can I pick up at your facility?

Yes — pickup at our Zion Crossroads facility is free and welcome. Drive up, we'll load your truck or trailer while you wait. Delivery is also available across central Virginia by quote.
